HAEDONG KUMDO

Haedong duas Espadas

Haedong Kumdo is based on real field combat techniques, where the practitioner studies and practices movements simulating a fight against numerous opponents with a real sword, which is totally different when compared to other better known systems.

According to history, the Korean territory, before receiving the name Korea, was formed by three kingdoms: Koguryo, Bakdje and Silla. The most powerful among these kingdoms was that of Koguryo. The origin of Haedong Kumdo, according to historical data, is from the Koguryo military system, which dates back 1500 years in Korea.

It must also be understood that throughout history, Korea has been under constant threat from hostile forces. In particular, some aggressor nations have destroyed much of the records of current techniques of ancient Korean martial arts. There are only two documents left: the Moo Yeh Jee Bo and the Moo Yeh Do Bok Tong Gi, which give us insight into Korean martial history. These are the only two sources to trace the history of Korean sword arts.

In modern times, the military system of the martial art practiced in ancient times has become accessible to all citizens.
